STOP Background Music
Welcome to the Official Alan James Website
And
thank you for dropping by...
Alan James came to Canada in
1976 from Dublin, Ireland and hasn't looked back since. A product of
Ireland's showband era, Alan had played with several
major acts in Ireland, before striking out on his own and emigrating.
Starting out at the School of Music in his home
town of Dublin, Alan was soon travelling the length and breadth of Ireland with
bands like The Sahara Showband, The Victors, and Stage Two.
Known at the time as Alan Carr, the turning point came when the lead singer of
Stage Two, Brendan O'Brien, was electrocuted on stage and had to give up
performing for an extended period. The band turned to Alan, who put down his
trumpet and stepped out front to take the mic.
In 1976, concerned about the struggling live
music scene in Ireland, Alan decided it was time for a change. Other musicians
told him about the opportunities for entertainers in Canada and Alan took the
plunge. That was almost 30 years ago and ever since, Alan has been knocking them
dead in the casinos, theatres, ballrooms, and lounges of Canada and the United
States.
Not one to be labeled, Alan takes pride in
presenting a wide range of musical styles, from Irish
folk and traditional tunes to the American standards of yesterday and the
International pop tunes of today. If you have attended one of Alan's
performances, you already know his main goal is that all his audiences enjoy
themselves, whatever the occasion.
If you're looking for an entertainer that can
provide a variety of styles for your special occasion, or an authentic night of
Irish folk tunes and ballads, we invite you to contact Alan's management. Please
take a few minutes to explore the website where you can see
photos of Alan's performances, listen to samples of his
music, or read about the Irish Showband era.
